Most of Sierra de Andujar\u00a0<strong>has remained untouched for centuries<\/strong>, so here it\u2019s possible to find some of the best Spanish nature sites and, besides, people who still live traditionally.<\/p>\n<p>Located just one and a half hour from Almagro,<strong>\u00a0it has only two main entrances in its 74.774 Hectares<\/strong>, where the traveler will just find a handful of trails to explore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andujar\u2019s bird total stands as well over 150 different species<\/strong>, and keen birders should see\u00a0<strong>Spanish Imperial, Golden Eagle, Bonelli\u2019s Eagle, Short-Toed Eagle and Griffon &amp; Black Vultures<\/strong>\u00a0gliding the blue &amp; most of the year round very sunny sky of this part of Andalusia. Birds highlights could include\u00a0<strong>White-Rumped Swift<\/strong>\u00a0swirling over the Jandula river banks,\u00a0<strong>Black Wheatear, Blue-Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, Hawfinch\u00a0<\/strong>in the slopes of the sierra and\u00a0<strong>Goshawk<\/strong>\u00a0soaring over the pine trees forests of the Las Tres Sorores.<\/p>\n<p>Other highlights of the Sierra class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The\u00a0<strong>Iberian Lynx<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Lynx pardinus<\/em>) is a carnivorous mammal of the\u00a0<em>Felidae<\/em>\u00a0family restricted to just\u00a0<strong>seven areas in Spain<\/strong>:<strong>\u00a0(1) Donana National Park<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>(2) Sierra de Andujar and the Carde\u00f1a &amp; Montoro Natural Parks<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>(3) Guadalmellato river<\/strong>, the\u00a0<strong>(4) Guarrizas river<\/strong>\u00a0(all of these in Andalusia),\u00a0<strong>(5) Extremadura<\/strong>\u00a0and ten enclaves in the\u00a0<strong>(6) Ciudad Real<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>(7)Toledo provinces<\/strong>\u00a0(Castile-La Mancha region), plus\u00a0<strong>one adjacent area in Portugal<\/strong>. The total population of Iberian Lynx is now over 600 numbers, of wich more than 200 are found in the Sierra de Andujar and Carde\u00f1a areas, over to 90 in Donana, 150 in the Guadalmellato and Guarrizas rivers, 40 in Extremadura and between 80-85 in the Ciudad Real and Toledo provinces.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of Lynx\u2019s decline was the fall in the number of rabbits due the<strong>\u00a0Myxomatosis Disease<\/strong>\u00a0(MD) and the\u00a0<strong>Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease<\/strong>\u00a0(RHD), the mortality due to\u00a0<strong>traffic accidents<\/strong>\u00a0(mostly in Donana and wandering areas) and the<strong>\u00a0illegal poaching<\/strong>\u00a0with snares, poison, traps and even shooting carried out by irresponsible hunters.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ddd5694 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" black end tips and pointed ears<\/strong>, is very well adapted to the forests and scrublands of the Iberian Peninsula, but has the problem that its diet encompasses about\u00a0<strong>80% exclusively on rabbits<\/strong>, placing it\u00a0<strong>on the verge of extinction due lagomorph diseases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Though\u00a0<strong>seeing a Lynx is a challenging task<\/strong>\u00a0that may not produce good results, its\u00a0<strong>high fidelity to the territory and its crepuscular behavior<\/strong>\u00a0can bring exciting opportunities to all nature lovers.\u00a0<strong>December, January and February (the Lynx mating season) and March-April-May (when its cubs are born) are the best moments<\/strong>\u00a0to try on the Lynx defiance.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their relative small size compared with other big mammals,<strong>\u00a0encounters with the Lynx are relatively easy if you seek with determination and patience<\/strong>. Their very well-known patterns of behavior made of this endangered wild cat\u00a0<strong>a predictable prey<\/strong>, but be prepared for an intense search that, eventually, can provide the naturalist one of the greatest rewards.<\/p>\n<p>Lynx are relatively easy founded in\u00a0<strong>December &amp; January<\/strong>, but other months, such as\u00a0<strong>November, February &amp; even March<\/strong>, could be as good as the mentioned. Another advice is to\u00a0<strong>avoid the summer months<\/strong>, when the temperature into the park can exceed 40 degrees at noon and 25 degrees in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Without any doubt\u00a0<strong>the Lynx is the star of this huge park<\/strong>\u00a0that needs more than one day to go through, but nature lovers should not neglect the high chances to watch\u00a0<strong>Otters in the Jandula river<\/strong>, Red Deers, Muflons and Fallow Deers in the rolling hills covered with scattered and very scenic Holm Oaks,\u00a0<strong>Iberian Ibex<\/strong>\u00a0in the slopes of the sierras or to enjoy the rare privilege of hearing the howl of the latest Southern Iberian Wolves of Spain.
